The development of methods of inducing abortion medically (non-surgically) has created alternative options to make abortion available to women in a variety of health-care settings. The topic has been reviewed extensively in the past five years and a number of evidence-based guidelines have been published. This booklet has no intention to repeat these guidelines, but rather to provide answers to frequently asked questions, based on a review of available evidence. By focusing on practical issues, the answers should be particularly helpful to health-care personnel who are considering establishing, or already providing, a service for medical abortion in the early first trimester.
