Looking Deeper introduces to the West a poem by the fourteenth century Tibetan master Klong-chen rab-'byams pa (Longchenpa). In this autobiographical poem, A Swan's Questions and Answers. the master identifies himself with the King of the Swans, and his monastic community with the King's flock. The King decides to leave because of social and religious corruption, both within the community and throughout the land. The poem describes this corruption, the King 's parting advice to his flock, and the blissful new land to which he travels. Dr. Guenther's sensitive translation and his extensive and scholarly commentary allow the poem to speak with a freshness and a force that underline its relevance to our own times.
