Progressive globalization is leading to a growing need for translation in our increasingly interconnected world. The present book explores the previously barely discussed questions to what extent a translator on the one hand incorporates his own cultural background, society structure and conditions from his personal environment into a translation, and on the other hand, how strongly the translator's reading can influence the reader of a text. The basis of the investigation is nine Japanese transmissions of Franz Kafka's narrative "The Transformation".
