In more than 1,600 entries written by more than 600 internationally recognized scholars, it explores the effect of the colonial and post-colonial experience on literatures in English worldwide. The Structure The Encyclopedia is alphabetically organized and includes three major categories of survey: national entries, which trace the literary and cultural development of a country in terms of its geography, history, economy, and politics; major subject and genre entries, which provide a historic perspective on the trends and currents of literary activity in different countries; and biographical and critical entries on individual authors.
