Geographic distribution and archaic names are included. Specialised methods are given for the preparation of a range of material including wood, stems, roots, leaves and fibres, with particular emphasis on samples from archaeological artefacts which have been adversely affected by their conditions of burial. Detailed anatomical descriptions of over 160 species of broadleaved herbaceous plants and trees, conifers, grasses, palms and other monocotyledons, and ferns and horsetails are fully illustrated with over 600 photomicrographs.
